FAQ

Frequently “Axed” Questions

Axe Throwing?  How Does it Work
Do we Just Throw Axes, or is there more to it?

Skilled coaches facilitate your event from start to finish by teaching range safety, throwing fundamentals of different axes, followed by some practice time and throwing games.  All of this is tailored to your group and event.

I have never thrown an axe. Can I play?
Yes, of course!  We provide instruction tailored to all levels of experience.

Are spectators allowed?

Axe throwing is a lot of fun and people typically don’t want to just observe. Spectators are welcome and only charged if they decide to throw an axe.

How does scoring work?

While variations may be introduced during some games, the basic scoring is:

  • The black line awards points associated with the ring.
  • 6 points for the bullseye.
  • 4 points for the 2nd ring.
  • 3 points for the 3rd ring.
  • 2 points for the 4th ring.
  • 1 point for the 5th ring.
  • 10 points for the blue balls, also known as the kill shot. (sometimes this is valued at one point, like the ring it sits, depending on the activity played.)

Safety

Everyone signs a copy of our liability waiver when they arrive. Any minors will need to have their parents or guardians sign a waiver prior to them arriving. Please let us know if there are minors in your group when you book with us.  Click here for a PDF copy of our waiver.

Parking

The entrance to Stratford Axes is at the back of the plaza at 439 Erie St. where you will also find ample parking for you and your party.

What Should I wear?

Close-toed shoes are required but flannel shirts and beards are optional!  We recommend that you wear something comfortable and allow you to have full range of motion.

Can I Bring My Own Axe?

We provide a variety of axes for throwing. However, if you bring an axe with you we will need to take a look at it before you throw.

Eats & Drinks

We are a licensed facility and have a well-stocked bar including soft drinks. We stock local craft beer, domestic and premium beer along with an assortment of coolers and mixed drinks.

Our facility has room to sit and enjoy eats and drinks away from the axe throwing lanes.

If your group is interested in having your event catered or if you want to order in food that works! Just let us know ahead of time so we can have the space ready to suit your needs.

Bottom Line: You are welcome to bring in snacks and food, but please no beverages.
